Hermann & Valentiny
Architecture is the real battleground of the spirit
Since completing their studies in 1980 Hermann & Valentiny have had an office both in Luxembourg and Vienna. The period during which their teacher Wilhelm Holzbauer attributed to this pair a formal vocabulary that was marked by "a rich but also eloquent receptiveness to the spirit of the times" is long since past. Both have radically distanced themselves from their postmodern beginnings that catapulted them into the limelight at a very young age, and have developed further. In 1995 Amber Sayah attributed to them "a path of development from sculpturally modelled building volumes to a structural dissection, from a formerly closed architecture to an open one".
To put it more simply: after their rapid start they travelled a long path to arrive at their current understanding of architecture. A lengthy phase of refl ection, "in which we learnt to refl ect and to work out our fundamental principles" (HH), put an end to quick reactions to the zeitgeist. They acquired technical competence and developed a feeling for materials and the quality of detailing. Writing about their work in 2001 Liesbeth Waechter-Böhm referred to "a strategy based on dynamic motion at a reduced speed". The wealth of projects that HVP have produced up to the present day confi rms that they are much sought-after architects, and that there are no building commissions that they are not regarded as capable of dealing with. They have developed their own signature, which is shaped more strongly by materials than by form; they have remained faithful to their rejection of a world without colour and excitement and use strong accents to counteract it.
As a whole their architecture has an expressive strength and is full of fantasy, both radical and sensitive at one and the same time.

the next ENTERprise- architects, Vienna
The provocation of the random and the unpredictable is our strategy in approaching the spatial and programmatic aspects of architecture. We work at discovering the factors leading beyond pure functionality - it is how we see the essence of architecture.
Ernst J. Fuchs and Marie Therese Harnoncourt founded the next ENTERprise - architects in 2000 in Vienna. They have cooperated - with other partners - since the early 1990s. From the beginning the next ENTERprise has operated in a fi eld that ranges from experimental installations (Blindgänger 2000; Audiolounge 2002; Trinkbrunnen 2003) to architectural practice (Zirl House 1997; Underground swimming pool, Vienna 2001 - with Florian Haydn; Lakeside bath, Caldaro / Kaltern, 2006) treating
both approaches as equal and mutually infl uential. The two latest projects are the Open-Air Pavilion for Grafenegg Castle Park, opened in 2007 and the new Thermal Bath in Villach Warmbad currently at the planning stage. tnE has held teaching engagements in Vienna, Innsbruck, Linz, Bratislava and Paris. Work by the studio has been widely exhibited and published (Venice Biennale 2006 and 2004; 5th Biennale for Architecture, São Paulo / Brazil, 2003; Archilab 5, Orléans 2003; Latent Utopias, Graz 2002; FINN_topo, Helsinki 2009). The studio was nominated for the Mies van der Rohe Award in both 2009 and 2007.The Open-Air Pavilion in Grafenegg was granted the Clients' Award of the Austrian Architects Association in 2007 and the Baupreis (2nd prize) in 2009.
The fi rst monograph of the next ENTERprise ‘Close to the Bone' was published (DD22, Damdi Architecture Publishing Co., South Korea.) in 2007.

The Space Systems branch associates have expertise in space systems engineering, space systems architecture, space design and habitability. The team members of the Earth Systems branch work in the field of architecture and design from research to implementation. 2004, LIQUIFER (Systems Group) was founded by the Austrian physicist and systems engineer Norbert Frischauf, the Indian space entrepreneur, designer and engineer Susmita Mohanty and Barbara Imhof. The Space Systems platform is comprised of ten experts with diff erent backgrounds collaborating on space exploration concepts for the European Space Agency and the European space industry and in the future for the Indian space agency ISRO. LIQUIFER Earth Systems is lead by Barbara Imhof und Waltraut Hoheneder; influenced by new technologies and spaceflight, the two Wolf D. Prix graduates develop concepts for living and working environments
tracing, advancing and reflecting future development potentialities. The implementation of these (research) projects currently results in prototypes, interior spaces or exhibition design. In the future we anticipate deepening the exploration of synergies between space and earth applications for architecture within a multidisciplinary cooperation.

Hadid ’02
Zaha Hadid Architects
Zaha Hadid, founding partner of Zaha Hadid Architects, was awarded the Pritzker Architecture Prize considered to be the Nobel Prize of architecture) in 2004 and is internationally known for both her theoretical and academic work. Each of her dynamic and innovative projects builds on over thirty years of revolutionary experimentation and research in the interrelated fi elds of urbanism, architecture and design. Working with senior offi e partner Patrik Schumacher, Hadid's interest is in the rigorous interface between architecture, landscape, and geology as the Practice integrates natural topography and human-made systems that lead to experimentation with cutting-edge technologies. Such a process often results in unexpected and dynamic architectural forms moulded by the realities of site and building requirements.
The BMW Central Building in Leipzig and the Phaeno Science Center in Wolfsburg, Germany are excellent demonstrations of the Practice's quest for complex, dynamic space. Previous seminal buildings, such as the Rosenthal Center for Contemporary Art in Cincinnati have also been hailed as architecture that transforms our vision of the future with new spatial concepts and bold, visionary forms.
Currently Zaha Hadid Architects are working on a multitude of projects including; the Fiera di Milano masterplan and tower, the Aquatics Centre for the London 2012 Olympic Games, the Performing Arts Centre in Abu Dhabi; High-Speed Train Stations in Naples and Durango, the CMA CGM Head Offi ce tower in Marseille, Pierres Vives City Administration Building in Montpellier, Opera Houses in Dubai and China, private residences in Moscow and the USA, as well as major master-planning projects in Beijing, Bilbao, Istanbul, Singapore and the Middle East.
